Federal Judge Reprimands Capitol Riot Prosecutors Over Leaks To Media

(Patriot Insider) – The left has been doing everything in their power to demonize Trump supporters since the Jan. 6 Capitol riot incident. Of course, we all know that what happened on Jan. 6 was not a representation of the 75+ million Americans who support President Trump but it was a perfectly timed gift for Democrats and the crooked mainstream media.

Trump and his supporters have been vocal about their support for law enforcement and law and order. What happened on Jan. 6 was a culmination of frustrations over the corruption, lies and deceit that have taken over the people’s government.

Not to mention the fact that left-wing organizations like Antifa were, without a doubt, also involved in the Capitol riot. Nonetheless, the fact remains that it was an isolated incident and nothing in comparison to the deadly and violent leftist riots that have been plaguing US cities for the last year.

The mainstream media and crooked leftist prosecutors have been doing everything they can to ensure Trump supporters are found guilty in the court of public opinion before they even have a chance to stand a fair trial in a court of law.

One federal judge, however, is not amused with these antics. On Tuesday, District Judge Amit Mehta held a hearing for the sole purpose of reprimanding the prosecutors involved in the cases related to the storming of the Capitol because of several inappropriate news leaks.

“No matter how much press attention this matter gets, let me be clear these defendants are entitled to a fair trial, not one that was conducted in the media,” he said, according to the Hill.

Of the issues the judge was upset over were a former acting US attorney for DC giving an interview with “60 Minutes” and the New York Times reporting that more severe charges were being considered, citing anonymous sources of course.

The judge is set to preside over 10 cases against members of the Oath Keepers organization who face a variety of charges such as conspiracy and obstruction for their roles in the Capitol riot.

The “60 Minutes” interview was with Michael Sherwin who had been overseeing the prosecutions until recently. Sherwin told “60 Minutes” that he believed prosecutors had the evidence needed to pursue sedition charges.

Judge Mehta warned prosecutors that such statements “jeopardize the integrity of a criminal case and affect the rights of a criminal defendant.”

“Let me just say at the outset that I am surprised, I’m being restrained in my use of terminology, to say the least, to see Mr. Sherwin sitting for an interview about a pending case in an ongoing criminal investigation,” the judge said.

He went on to say that it wasn’t for him to say whether or not Sherwin’s interview violated justice policy but that he hopes the Department of Justice is looking into the matter.

Rest assured, they aren’t.

He also said that he found it “troubling” that the New York Times was reporting on anonymous sources from within the DOJ and had been “detailing the possibility of additional charges in pending criminal cases and an ongoing criminal investigation.”

According to a spokesman for the criminal division of the US Attorney’s office in Washington, both media disclosures were being reviewed by the department’s Office of Professional Responsibility.

It’s good to see there are still professionals with the judicial system who still have integrity.
