HE DID IT: Joe Manchin Destroys Biden Nominee’s Confirmation Hopes… Again

(Patriot Insider) – Not all Democrats in Congress are slimy swamp creatures. West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin seems to be one of, if not the only, Democrats in Congress with integrity and backbone. He refuses to submit to group think and blind allegiance to the Democratic Party and has played a pivotal role in stopping some of the damage the Biden regime is attempting to inflict on the US.

Manchin said on Monday that he is opposed to the nomination of Biden pick Sarah Bloom Raskin to a key position on the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors. Manchin’s opposition would jeopardize Raskin’s chances of getting Senate confirmation altogether.

Raskin’s nomination has already been stalled for quite some time in the Senate Banking Committee with Republicans unanimously refusing to vote on it last month in order to prevent her being confirmed on a party-line vote.

Though Manchin is not a member of that committee, his opposition ruins the chance for a party-line vote and would mean Raskin would need to pick up the support of one Republican Senator.

Committee Republicans, led by Pennsylvania Sen. Pat Toomey, have refused to support Raskin because she has been a vocal supporter of the Fed considering the supposed threat to climate change in its regulation of banks.

Naturally, Biden has nominated Raskin to serve as the Fed’s vice chair for supervision, a top financial regulatory post.

Toomey has expressed concerns that Raskin would use the Fed’s regulatory authority to discourage banks from lending to oil and gas drilling companies. Raskin has, of course, denied that she would do that during a February hearing but it’s pretty hard to believe her considering the war being waged against America’s natural resources by the Biden regime.

The Committee Republicans weren’t the only ones concerned about this prospect. Manchin, a long-time advocate for energy companies, also shares this concern.

“Her previous public statements have failed to satisfactorily address my concerns about the critical importance of financing an all-of-the-above energy policy to meet our nation’s critical energy needs,” the Senator said. “I have come to the conclusion that I am unable to support her nomination.”

In response, a White House official said the administration still supports Raskin, calling her “one of the most qualified people to have ever been nominated” for the Fed’s board.

She previously served on the board from 2010-2014 and as deputy Treasury secretary.

“We are working to line up the bipartisan support that she deserves, so that she can be confirmed by the Senate for this important position,” said the official off record.

Despite being confirmed unanimously by the Senate the first time she was nominated to be a Fed governor, Raskin just doesn’t have bipartisan support this time. A spokesperson for Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH), who is chairman of the Banking Committee, said that Brown is “working to move forward Ms. Bloom Raskin’s nomination with bipartisan support.”

Though it’s unclear where he’s going to get that bipartisan support from. With RINOs like Toomey already voicing opposition, it’s hard to imagine who will support her.

Some analysts contend that Manchin’s opposition will be the nail in Raskin’s coffin.

“We do not see how Raskin can be confirmed without the support of Joe Manchin as we expect every Republican will oppose her nomination,” said Jaret Seiberg, a banking analyst at Cowen Washington Research Group.

Raskin certainly has the resume to back up her nomination but her potential radical agenda is what’s standing in the way. The US doesn’t need anymore attacks against our energy industry and if Raskin poses even a potential threat, she needs to be blocked.
