(Patriot Insider) – Everyone is super excited about the fact that the deal for Elon Musk to purchase social media giant Twitter has finally, for real, come to an official close. Musk has stated time and time again that he believes social media platforms like Twitter are the digital town square and they should be treated as such, allowing folks to share their views and ideologies with one another openly without fear of being silenced.
The company has become notorious over the last several years for censoring and shadow-banning conservatives and others who won’t fall in line with the progressive agenda, refusing to go along with groupthink and engage the issues for themselves. One of the most high profile individuals to be tossed into the digital gulag is former President Donald Trump.
However, the Washington Examiner reports one of Musk’s first actions as the CEO of Twitter could be indicative that he is going to be reinstating Trump’s account.
“Almost immediately upon closing the $44 billion Twitter deal on Thursday, Musk fired CEO Parag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal, and Vijaya Gadde, head of legal policy, trust, and safety, according to insiders speaking with the Washington Post. Gadde was reportedly the figure instrumental in getting Trump’s account banned,” Brady Knox wrote for the publication.
“So far, Musk has only tweeted one missive that appears to be about his acquisition: ‘the bird is freed.’ Now, the question remains whether Trump would even return, if unbanned, given his previous assertion that he would not do so, preferring to stay on his own alternative platform of Truth Social, among many other users who have been pushed off Twitter,” Knox continued.

In May, Musk made the announcement that he fully planned to unban Trump. He hasn’t talked about that any further as of late, following all of the legal battles that took place between Musk and the social media giant.
“At a Financial Times conference in May, Musk said that Twitter’s choice to ban Trump after the Capitol riot was ‘a mistake because it alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice.’ He then went so far as to call the decision ‘morally wrong and flat-out stupid,’ according to The New York Times. He added that permanent bans should only be reserved for accounts that operate bots or spread spam. He said that temporary suspensions should only be put in place in rare instances, though they could be appropriate for ‘wrong and bad’ tweets, Reuters reported,” according to Knox.
One top ranked ad-buying firm has expressed displeasure at the idea of Trump coming back to Twitter and has offered a bit of resistance. Kieley Taylor, the global head of partnerships at GroupM, went on to say that at least a dozen clients have informed the company to pause ads on Twitter if the former president makes his triumphant return.
Musk posted a tweet on Wednesday that contained an open letter to advertisers that while he wants the platform to be more open, he does not believe it should “become a free-for-all hellscape, where anything can be said with no consequences!”

About the same time that Trump was carted off to his digital prison, a close associate of Musk’s remarked that the billionaire “vehemently” disagreed with Trump being censored, referring to the move as “insane,” noted The Wall Street Journal.
“So far, Trump has only ever said he would not return to Twitter, even if his account is unbanned. However, he has not commented on it publicly recently. “I am not going on Twitter. I am going to stay on Truth,” Trump told Fox News in April. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it, and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on Truth,'” Knox added in his piece for the Washington Examiner.
It makes sense to stay on Truth, since that is the company that he himself is building, but at the same time, he could be making a huge mistake by not returning to Twitter. This would be a very powerful platform for him to use for both the upcoming midterm elections, but also the 2024 presidential race, should he throw his hat into the ring for consideration.
