Squad Member Who Supports “Defund The Police” Secretly Marries Campaign Security Guard

(Patriot Insider) – Far left Democrats have spent the last several years screaming that the police need to be defunded as if it’s the answer to solving all of the problems facing their inner city constituents that they don’t actually care about at all.

The fact that they insist on defunding the police, which would leave the communities they serve vulnerable, is proof enough of just how little they care. Not only do they want to take away funding for much needed law enforcement officers but they are shameless when it comes to their own security.

Take radical leftist “Squad” member Missouri Rep. Cori Bush for example. She’s been an outspoken proponent of the “defund the police” movement but when it comes to her own safety and security, she doesn’t skimp.

In just the first quarter of 2021 alone Bush spent $30,000 on her own security. KSDK-TV reports that, to date, Bush has spent $627,088 on security from her campaign funds. That’s a staggering amount.

As if the brazen hypocrisy wasn’t enough. It’s now been revealed that Bush secretly wedded Army veteran and personal bodyguard Cortney Merritts in a private ceremony in February.

“Marriage records filed with the St. Louis Recorder of Deeds show Bush signed her marriage license in a pact with Cortney Merritts on Feb. 11, a few days before their wedding,” KSDK noted.

The outlet interestingly didn’t bother reporting on the nuptials until at least a week after they happened. Could that be because Merritts was on Bush’s campaign payroll?

Campaign finance records show Bush paid Merritts $62,359 directly from campaign funds in 2022, mostly for security services. Now she’s married the guy, that doesn’t seem suspicious at all.

It’s not clear when Merritts was retained but the first direct payments to him were federally reported in 2022. KSDK stated that “Merritts’ social media posts show he traveled with Bush on her trips to her first inauguration in January 2021, to New York City’s Ed Sullivan Theater for her appearance on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,’ and to Central America on a trip with a Congressional delegation.”

Naturally, her security expenses are going to be scrutinized given her position that the police need to be defunded. However, Bush accused those who dare point out her hypocrisy of wanting her dead and being racists while pretending to be some kind of hero of the people.

“They would rather I die? You would rather me die? Is that what you want to see? You want to see me die?” she told CBS News in 2021 after being questioned about her security spending.

“You know, because that could be the alternative. So either I spent $70,000 on private security over the last few months, and I’m here standing now and able to speak,” she continued.

“I have private security because my body is worth being on this planet right now. I have private security because they, the white supremacist racist narrative that they drive into this country. The fact that they don’t care that this black woman that has put her life on the line, they can’t match my energy first of all. This black woman who puts her life on the line. They don’t care that I could be taken out of here. They actually probably are OK with that, but this is the thing: I won’t let them get that off. You can’t get that off. I’m going to make sure I have security because I know I have had attempts on my life and I have too much work to do. There are too many people that need help right now for me to allow that.”

She further claimed that she’s had police officers threaten her which is just such a convenient argument in favor of her needing to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on private security.

Bush is by far the least known member of the notorious squad, the group of far left Congressional women of color who continually pretend to be victimized by conservatives and anyone who dares point out their hypocrisy. Yet, despite being a mostly obscure member of Congress she has far outspent her fellow, and much more notorious, squad members on security measures.

In 2021, Bush and Reps. Jamaal Bowman and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan spent a combined $325,000 on private security using campaign funds. Bush spent around $200,000 of that on her own security.

So not only is Bush a hypocrite but it’s pretty obvious she was likely enriching herself with campaign funds now that we know she was in a romantic relationship with someone in her employ. This is against House ethics rules and could bring on a Federal Election Commission investigation, as it should. No wonder she and Merritts wed in secrecy.

Bush is just another corrupt politician who cares more about platitudes than principles.

  1. “Because the rational and the irrational, between good and evil. And good does not always triumph. Sometimes, the dark side overcomes what Lincoln called the better angels of our nature.” Perhaps Cori Bush has reached her limits and gone over the edge. Perhaps it’s time she was arrested.
