(Patriot Insider) – The debate over gun control rages on with leftists seeking to literally disarm Americans while failing to demonstrate how any more gun laws or the disarming of law-abiding citizens would in any way, shape, or form prevent lunatics from committing mass shootings.
Leftists are pulling out all the stops to get Americans on board with gun control including using Hollywood celebrities to push their agenda.
Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey made a stop at the White House to talk about this issue before the White House press corps on Tuesday. While he sounded genuinely concerned, his arguments just don’t carry water in the grand scheme of things.
We can, however, appreciate that he did note the issue of mental health and touched on red flag laws. These might be the only two issues that could directly prevent mass shootings in the future if handled appropriately.
Unfortunately, the Biden regime has no interest in addressing the mental health crisis in America and they only want to abuse red flag laws to target political opposition.
McConaughey gave it his all, nonetheless. The actor is an Uvalde, Texas, native and even traveled to the town the day after an 18-year-old armed madman gunned down and killed 19 children and 2 teachers.
McConaughey and his wife went to Uvalde to provide support and to grieve with the hurting families and community.
On Tuesday, he spoke at the White House and offered up his policy recommendations, some of which we can agree with such as better funding for mental health care and restraining sensationalized media coverage but the majority of his ideas just sounded like futile leftist talking points.
“We need to invest in mental health care. We need safer schools. We need to restrain sensationalized media coverage. We need to restore our family values. We need to restore our American values and we need responsible gun ownership,” McConaughey said.

“We need background checks,” McConaughey continued. “We need to raise the minimum age to purchase an AR-15 rifle to 21. We need a waiting period for those rifles. We need red flag laws and consequences for those who abuse them.”
“Is this a cure-all? Hell no, but people are hurting,” he said.
The problem with these policies and laws are that many of them are already in place but not always followed. There’s no reason to believe that more laws would be adhered to any better.
Robb Elementary School was supposed to have one single entry point where visitors to the school are required to get buzzed in. However, a side door was left unlocked which allowed for the 18-year-old shooter to walk right in.
The school district does have armed police officers in their employ but, conveniently, none were on site when the shooting took place.
Meanwhile, background checks are already required for those looking to purchase firearms from gun dealers and since the Uvalde shooter did not have any criminal record he was able to purchase two guns about a week prior to the shooting, according to The Washington Post.
How he managed to afford those guns working barely part-time at McDonalds is an entirely different story.
McConaughey mentioned waiting periods but did not give any kind of time frame. Would it be days? Weeks? And what difference does it make if there is no criminal record? The Uvalde shooter likely would have still been able to obtain firearms even with a waiting period.
Perhaps the intention is to allow wanna-be mass murderers some time to rethink their plans. However, considering most of these events appear to be well-thought out, that’s pretty unlikely.
If the minimum age to buy an AR-15 was raised to 21 it would have prevented him from purchasing the firearms, at least in his name. There’s a good chance he could have just found someone to buy them for him. After all, criminals don’t regard the law.

While this is certainly true enough, gun owners also don’t want their Second Amendment rights taken away just because some mentally deranged individuals choose to do evil, wicked things with guns.
“We want secure and safe schools and we want gun laws that won’t make it so easy for the bad guys to get these damn guns,” McConaughey asserted.
The only thing stricter gun laws will do, however, is make it more difficult for good guys to get guns while criminals and madmen find ways to circumvent laws. Murder is already illegal but that doesn’t stop crazy people from killing other people.
There are no policies or laws that can adequately stop wicked people intent on hurting others from doing so. The only thing that could possibly make a difference is a change in the morality of our society, strengthening the values of the traditional American family, and a return to Christian-Judeo principles.
Mental health is a serious issue in the US right now but so is a complete and utter lack of spirituality and decency. The radical left has destroyed the fabric of American society and the only way to fix it is to take it back and put a stop to the lunacy.

McCounaughey is a great actor and probably a good human being but should he be viewed as “The Decision Maker” ? NO! He has some good thoughts but we have people who we elected to deal with issues like this and these elected officials cannot get the job done. THAT’S A HUGE PROBLEM that “we the people” need to put our heads together and find a resolution for. I personally would like to send them all packing and start over. They have forgotten what their jobs are and who they work for. Clean out the trash in Washington DC and start over.

Every “compromise “ is a step backwards that we will never get back. Slowly, their opinion of “common sense “ expands to prohibition. If they want to repeal the 2nd Amendment, there is a procedure to do so in the Constitution. Go ahead try it. See how that works out for you. Until then, let us alone.
I am not going to watch the vid. It seems to be the flavor of the day. I have no interest in what an actor or any celebrity has to say on important issues. Opinions are like butt holes. Theirs carry no extra weight. I am on the side of those who follow and respect the Constitution. Those who kneel for the Cross, and stand for the US Flag. Those who know what bathroom to use.
I like him as an actor……but that’s all he is. Why should he be given a platform to hold sway, while someone like myself has no say whatsoever. I’m a 73 year old retired blue collar worker and Vietnam veteran with much more life experience than any of these young celebrities, yet their views are more relevant than mine?
I like some of his work, but just because he is a celebrity doesn’t give him any special insight or do anything except grant him a taller soapbox then you or I. One man, one vote, that’s always been the deal. When celebrities try to parley their celebrity to increase their voting power, well they should run for office instead of trying an end run around the congress. When they do run, they should represent their constituents, not hog the ball and shoot all the baskets. That’s what our president is trying to do now and it’s mostly destroying the country. And, the only thing that banning the sale of AR-15 style rifles to 18 year olds would do is cause the next few mass shootings to be done with hunting rifles, pistols or shotguns, instead. maybe even give up guns altogether and use explosives, automobiles, natural gas, or some other means to kill lots of people. Maybe even more than could be killed with a semi-automatic rifle. The real problem is the pressure cooker society that the communists in America are causing. The pandemic was one big attack on young males, females in sports, everyone who had to stay home or was not allowed to congregate, school kids forced to wear masks, mandated vaccinations and people losing their jobs, the FDA, CDC, physicians associations, hospitals and other health industries complete denial of treatments except for vaccinations, all focusing on the destruction of the family, society and literally causing this problem. The culmination of the first year was the fraudulent election which the pandemic helped to do, brought into office a commie puppet that has made matters worse every day since. The old America was always awash in guns with various problems it caused, but kids took them to school, you could buy ammo at gas stations, they were ubiquitous in the society. Since democrats have taken up the cross of gun control, they have pushed the society closer to needing more guns than relieving the pressure that causes people to use them. It is their plan and it is proceeding very well. Some hope they survive what they have wrought. I really don’t care whether they do or not but might prefer, not.
Most of all of his recommendations are reality in California and yet, California has the highest gun violence per capita of any state in the country. So, we already have a state that has tried his experiment and it’s failed tremendously. So, why do we need to try it country-wide? So, we can see the results that we already know based upon California’s experiment? As Ben Franklin stated in the 1770’s, “Common sense isn’t so common anymore.” What we have is a sin problem and that’s a genetic thing and the only remedy is to have a change of heart and the only person who can do that impossible task is Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “Metanoia or Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand.” In essence, it means, change how you think which is a heart thing and only He is able to do that. Sin has only one vaccination and that’s the person of Jesus Christ.
