(Patriot Insider) – The judge overseeing the NY v. Trump trial in Manhattan has decided to allow former President Donald Trump to attend the graduation ceremony of his son, Barron Trump, who will be graduating from high school in Florida. It’s sad that this even had to be a thing. A father should be allowed to attend such a momentous event without question.
Judge Juan Merchan spoke to the court on Tuesday and said, “I don’t think the May 17 date is a problem.”
“Trump had pushed for weeks to attend his son’s high school graduation on May 17, but a decision on the matter was left in limbo until Tuesday, with Trump speculating earlier this month he would be denied leaving Manhattan for the event,” Fox News reported.
“(Barron’s) a great student and he’s very proud of the fact he did so well and was looking forward for years to having his graduation with his mother and father there, and it looks like the judge isn’t going to allow me to escape this scam. It’s a scam trial,” the former president proclaimed earlier in the month of April.
As of this writing, it’s not been made clear if the trial will pause on the day of the graduation or if Trump will just not be present for the proceedings.
Barron Trump is enrolled at a private school located near the former president’s Mar-a-Lago estate, which is in southern Florida.
“Trump is currently on day nine of his ongoing trial in Manhattan, where he is facing 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. The case has heard from three witnesses as of late Tuesday morning, including former American Media Inc. CEO and former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker, former executive assistant to Trump and a senior vice president of the Trump Organization Rhona Graff, and Gary Farro, who served as senior managing director at First Republic Bank in 2016,” the report continued.
Merchan also ordered Trump on Tuesday to pay off $9,000 in fines for violating a gag order that prohibits him from being able to speak openly and publicly about witnesses and family members of those related or connected to court officials. The judge declared that Trump violated the order a total of nine times, with each violation bringing a $1,000 fine.
He then stated that if Trump keeps violating the gag order he would face “incarceratory punishment” if it was deemed “necessary and appropriate.”
Just before the remarks made by Merchan on Tuesday morning, the former president called on him to recuse himself from the case, referring to it as a “hoax” that is being overseen by a “badly conflicted judge.”
“This is a hoax. This is a judge who is conflicted. Badly, badly, badly conflicted. I’ve never seen a judge so conflicted and giving us virtually no rulings,” Trump went on to say outside the courtroom.
“I’m going to sit in the freezing cold icebox for eight hours, nine hours or so. They took me off the campaign trail. But the good news is my poll numbers are the highest they’ve ever been. So at least we’re getting the word out. And everybody knows this trial is a scam. It’s a scam. The judge should be recused, that he should recuse himself today… he should recuse himself today. And maybe he will,” Trump commented.
Just last month, Trump ripped into Merchan in a post published on Truth Social, calling on him at that point to recuse himself from presiding over the case, citing the judge’s daughter and her work consulting for Democratic politicians as a conflict of interest. I mean, he’s got a point, right? Not to mention the judge is a deeply loyal Democrat who has donated money to candidates within the party.
